Another Suggestion

A little over two years ago, I made the suggestion that the ePrize "secure image" needs to be updated to be made more accessible to include a way of hearing the code. Refreshing it would also be nice. I noticed today that the ePrize blog -- an "out of the box" solution undoubtedly -- has this functionality while the ePrize promotions still use the original "get_image" stuff that Sugar Bear created way back in 2003.

Despite all of the grousing from employees about ADA regulations/508 Compliance, little has been done to ever make this dream a reality. Perhaps a lawsuit might help?

Barker's the one who wrote the code that I'm guessing is still used for the CAPTCHA stuff. The funny thing was that he did it on his own time and wanted to release it under GPL (while letting ePrize use it), but ePrize held the position the code belonged to them as it was inspired by his work while there. Barker wasn't around in 2003, though, so I'm not sure who "Sugar Bear" refer to unless it was the contractor that wrote the first, crappy black and white version that I helped to make a little less sucky. Funny stuff.

Sugar Bear is Barker, yeah. I think the name comes from that hat he used to wear all the damn time.

I remember Lippitt chomping at the bit about Barker claiming "intellectual property". How dare anyone try to pull a "fast one" on ePrize. LOL. I'm sure Lippitt was afraid that ePrize might lose a fuggin' dime sometime.

Well, Barker and I work together still and after reading this I immediately asked him if anyone had ever called him 'Sugar Bear' i sure didn't and didn't remember anyone else having done so either. He sure wasn't aware of the name either.

He was, just probably not to his face. :)

I always liked Robb and think the comment above is unfair--particularly in that it's calling out an individual but done anonymously. I was definitely disappointed in ePrizw's decision but think it was standard corporate thinking not malice or greediness on the part of Lippitt or ePrize. The problem was I think that they saw releasing it under GPL as somehow *hurting* ePrize but I maintain it would have not impacted them whatsoever since image security never *directly* profited ePrize. It was not like Scott was asking to open source toybox. In fact, I still think it might have actually benefited ePrize by getting their name out in the open source community. But I understand their decision. I just think the thinking behind it flawed.

FOSS Toybox FTW!

IE 6 Sucks! said...

I've been gone from ePrize several years now. I don't know why I read this blog month to month, other than for entertainment.

This is my first time commenting. I must comment now because I can no longer allow these feelings to fester within my soul.

To the person who goes by the name "IE 6 Rocks", you should be ashamed of yourself for being enthusiastic about this browser. Internet Explorer 6 is the biggest piece of poo Microsoft ever came out with, with the exception of Windows ME of course.

I don't know how you can live with yourself "IE 6 Rocks"...

That browser version has caused me such agony. I remember the sleepless night when I tried to get a div element to position / float correctly. I tried absolute / relative, you name it and I finally gave up.

Thanks for bringing the memories back you...

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure "IE ROCKS" was being sarcastic when he selected his name.

I could be wrong, but maybe my comments were sarcasm...

To whoever runs this blog: I have some realy good infomation. On ePrize especialy Josh Linkner. How can we get in touch with each other direcly?

Anonymous said...

You should get in touch with the letter L. He's missed you.

For;To whoever runs this blog:

Why don't you post it in these comments for now.

Anonymous said...

I would rather be in touch. Its realy good! Maybe anonymus gmail?

Anonymous said...

I don't get the "letter L" comment. I only saw a missing "t" in there.

Anyway, I talk to "Louis Friend" via exprize666 at gmail dot com.

I'm pretty sure I know what this news is and will be very disappointed if this blog posts personal gossip

Anonymous said...

dont use exprize666 at gmail pretty sure its an address used by eprize insiders to catch people posting information to this blog can you beleive those idiots would sink that low?

Anonymous said...

LOL...what are they gonna do? What? Does Linkner have a bunch of brownshirts lined up, or maybe hired a hit man to take our dissenters?

I dunno - I got the email and I'm not really sure it's appropriate to the site that Josh is having marital issues. Ripping on him for that seems like a low blow and not really eprize-related, unless his situation is affecting work.

effecting his work like the company laying off massive nombers of people because of mismanagment? i think his work is severly effected. noone wants him around including his top lutentants and the board of directers. and what do you think will happen to the company when dana owns half of everything?

That's some of the poorest grammar and spelling I've seen on the blog in a while.

Anyway, I love the paranoia, especially the email address set up to catch tattlers.

Josh's personal life has nothing to do with things. The economy and increased competition has caused clients to pull back, not Josh's marriage. He's out on the road every week closing deals and helping to drive revenue. We should stay focused on ePrize and not make this the gossip column.

its that self-deception that causes eprize to continue failing. its been failing for years and i for one am sick of it as someone on the team!!!! first it was robb's fault (gold medal) then it was ivan's fault (hired that new sales guy) then it was gerry's fault (beaurocrat!) then its the boards fault (no more money) then its the economys fault. whats the one constant? linkner! wake up and smell the fact that with one more distraction in his life he will faile worse than ever. or keep drinking your coolaide and jump into the hole after him. not me...

Anonymous - there's a great thing called "spellcheck" that may help you go farther in life.

This blog makes former ePrizers look retarded. No wonder why they got rid of you. Hope none of you wrote code for ePrize.

Like the entire promotions industry, I hope ePrize sinks faster than the Titanic and Linkner goes down with it. Thats karma right there for all his unethical and nasty sales practices.

HOWEVER.....his PERSONAL life has got ZIP to do with ANYTHING and its out of line for people to bring it up. Marital/family problems are living HELL for all involved and to make such dealings public is reprehensible.
